Sequence types

When you deliver direct debit instructions, you must also indicate the sequence type.

  • One-off: for one-off direct debit instructions. Your customer has given you a one-off mandate. Using this sequence type is mandatory.

  • First: for the first collection of a direct debit instruction of a recurrent series. Your customer has given you a recurrent mandate. This is the first time you are delivering a direct debit instruction for this mandate. Using this sequence type is optional.

  • Recurrent: for the collection of all subsequent direct debit instructions of a recurrent series. Your customer has given you a recurrent mandate. This is the second or subsequent time you are delivering a direct debit instruction for this mandate. Using this sequence type is mandatory.

  • Final: for the collection of the last direct debit instruction of a recurrent series. Your customer has given you a recurrent mandate. This is the last time you are delivering a direct debit instruction for this mandate. If you are not certain this is the last time, we advise against using this sequence type. (Usage is optional).

Special situations

In some cases, different sequence type rules apply to direct debit instructions that are rejected or refunded. For a detailed overview, consult the relevant rules at ABN AMRO Addendum for SEPA Direct Debit.
