If the insured person does not have medical insurance in the Netherlands
Why is this cover important?
Medical treatment can be very expensive if you have an accident or become ill abroad. In most cases, your Dutch medical insurance company will only reimburse the cost of the treatment or medication up to the equivalent cost of the same treatment in the Netherlands. With the additional Medical Costs cover option, you are insured for the actual cost of treatment in another country. This prevents nasty surprises.
Imagine that you are ill or have an accident while you’re on holiday. You’ll have enough to worry about without the extra worry of medical costs. Healthcare in some countries, such as the United States and Canada, is very expensive, and in countries like Turkey or Spain, tourists are often taken to expensive private clinics. Taking out the additional Medical Costs cover option means that your medical expenses will be reimbursed at the foreign rate and you will not have to pay the shortfall yourself.
Yes, with the additional Medical Costs cover option, you will be insured for the full amount of healthcare costs at the foreign rate. The cost of follow-up treatment in the Netherlands is covered up to €1,550. Dental costs in the Netherlands are not covered.
If you have annual travel insurance, you can change your additional cover options at any time. This means that you never pay too much and that you are properly insured for every type of trip.
