Medical Costs

Medical costs insured while travelling

The additional Medical Costs cover option covers any medical costs you incur if you become ill abroad, and follow-up treatment in the Netherlands.

What is covered and what is not?

You are insured for things such as:

  • Medical costs at foreign rates
  • Cost of follow-up treatment in the Netherlands

You are not insured for things such as:

  • Non-essential medical costs
  • If the insured person does not have medical insurance in the Netherlands

Why is this cover important?

Medical treatment can be very expensive if you have an accident or become ill abroad. In most cases, your Dutch medical insurance company will only reimburse the cost of the treatment or medication up to the equivalent cost of the same treatment in the Netherlands. With the additional Medical Costs cover option, you are insured for the actual cost of treatment in another country. This prevents nasty surprises.
