Surcharge for current accounts outside European Netherlands
For clients who live outside the Netherlands or in the Caribbean Netherlands (the ‘BES islands’), the costs we as a bank have to incur are higher on average. We pass on a portion of these higher costs in our fees. The amount of the surcharge depends on the risk profile of the country where you live, which we reassess each year. Given that the situation in certain countries has changed, we have placed these countries in a different risk category, with a different surcharge. The risk category for the following countries will change on 1 January 2024:
  • Aruba
  • Brunei Darussalam
  • Hong Kong
  • Nauru
  • Peru
  • Puerto Rico

Why are the fees changing?

At ABN AMRO, there are lots of ways to arrange your daily banking easily, securely and quickly. These options include simply scanning a QR code to make an iDEAL payment and paying and withdrawing money using your phone. Through these and other innovations, we make banking easier, faster and more secure. We also invest a great deal of time and money in combating financial crime.

At the same time, we want to make sure that banking remains accessible to all our clients. If you’re unsure what to do, we’re always close by and ready to help: you can talk to us via chat or call us right from the app. And you can also take advantage of our personal services, like a ‘financial future’ talk. These investments in our services and in secure banking result in higher fees for our payment services.
