1. Answer some questions

Go to the application form and answer some questions. We ask these questions so that we can offer you the best possible service. Once you have filled in your answers, check that the information is correct. When everything is correct, you can send the application.

2. Make an appointment with AMP Group

Before we open the joint account, we need to check the information for both of you. We do this to prevent identity fraud. Once the application has been approved, you will receive an email from our partner AMP Group within 3 working days containing a link to an appointment planner. You can choose when, where and at what time AMP Group will come to check the identity of you and your co-applicant. You can change the appointment up to 24 hours before the appointment time.

3. Prepare for the appointment

Make sure you both attend the appointment with AMP Group in person. Nobody else is permitted to hand over your identity documents. Make sure you have your ID ready so that the appointment does not take longer than necessary. AMP Group will check the documents and make a copy. Important information: AMP Group does not use vehicles bearing the ABN AMRO logo.

4. Your joint account is now open!

Everything sorted? Welcome! You will receive the debit cards and e.dentifiers by post within 5 working days. From now on, you and the co-applicant have a joint bank account and deal with joint banking matters through ABN AMRO. You can apply for a savings account, insurance policy or credit card in a few simple steps.

Which forms of identification can I use to open an ABN AMRO account?

You can open an account and submit your ID through the ABN AMRO app using the following forms of identification:

• Dutch ID (identity card, driving licence or passport)

• European identity card (except an identity card from Denmark, Greece, Iceland, Switzerland and Romania)

• International passport (except United States passport)

• Residence permit (type I, II, III, IV, V, or EU/EEA)

The identity document details that have been entered are incorrect. Can I still make changes?

After you upload your identity document, you will be asked to verify the details. You can change your name and date of birth if necessary. Your application may be rejected if the details cannot be properly verified. You can then restart the application.

Why do we need to submit our ID?

Like all other banks, we are legally obliged to verify the identity of you and your co-applicant and to check that you can both become clients. This obligation is laid down in the Dutch Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Act (Wwft). In doing so, we help prevent money laundering and terrorist financing.
