News: Private Equity Fund

Since 2018, sustainable investing is the standard within ABN AMRO. This focus translates into continuous innovations. The most recent step in this development is the introduction of an impact private equity fund that invests in companies that see it as their mission to achieve a positive impact on people, the environment and society in addition to a healthy financial return.

What is Private Equity Advice?

As a highly experienced investor with investable assets of over € 5,000,000, you want to be able to invest in liquid investments as well as less liquid ones. Do you have investable assets of over € 3,000,000? Then Private Equity Advice is possible under the condition that your first investment must be an instrument of various Private Equity Investment Funds.

Private Equity investments offer higher returns than listed equities, but are riskier and less liquid. Together with your investment adviser, you determine your personal private equity investment plan. The aim is to build up a diverse private equity portfolio within a few years, spread according to:

  • Investment years
  • Regions
  • Investment styles (such as buy-outs, growth capital, venture capital)
  • Possible investment themes (such as digitisation, impact investing)

On the basis of the investment plan drawn up with your adviser, you will be informed several times a year about suitable investment options. Together with your adviser, you then determine the possible addition of private equity to your investments. The private equity funds selected by ABN AMRO are subject to extensive analysis. Your adviser will discuss with you the advantages, disadvantages and risks of each investment offered.

Who is this for?

Private Equity Advice is for investors with investable assets of over € 5,000,000 or over € 3,000,000 under the additional condition that your first investment must be an instrument of various Private Equity Investment Funds. You are an experienced investor and understand the characteristics of a Private Equity investment. You are prepared to bear a higher risk on this part of your capital and you have a long investment horizon. You can deal with the uncertain timing of capital calls and distributions by Private Equity funds.

Before you can invest in Private Equity Advice, you need to pass an additional knowledge test.

What are the investment possibilities?

The Private Equity Solutions team of ABN AMRO MeesPierson selects funds from internationally renowned and experienced Private Equity Managers. These can be larger individual funds (with a fund size of more than €1,000,000,000), but also a basket of funds of a smaller size.

Due to the attractive risk-return profile (higher expected return, lower volatility than listed equities), ABN AMRO mainly selects buy-out funds and funds that provide growth capital to entrepreneurs. We also see good opportunities for specific secondary funds or co-investment funds. Venture capital funds or other thematic funds with a higher specific risk are preferably offered through a basket of private equity funds. This is to spread the risk.

How do I get information about my investments?

Private equity investments have a long-term nature of 10 years or more and are not suitable for active investing due to their lack of tradability. Nevertheless, we will inform you about your investments and new investment opportunities in various ways, which are descrived below:

  • Asset reporting
  • Every quarter we send you an overview of the Private Equity funds in which invest. In this overview, you can see the valuation of your private equity investments per fund and a clear overview of your committed capital, the invested capital and the outstanding payment obligations.
  • Fund information
  • After subscribing, you will periodically receive an update of the selected fund, with a description of the developments in the underlying portfolio. As these are unlisted investments, information is less frequently available. Quarterly reports usually appear about 3 months after the end of the quarter. These overviews are sent by e-mail via a so-called Alert. In addition, you will be informed in good time - also via an Alert - about a capital call. Your investment adviser can give a further explanation if desired.
  • Annual review
  • Periodically, you will discuss your private equity investment plan with your investment adviser, as well as your current and possible future investments in private equity and their suitability. On the basis of this periodic discussion, you can determine together whether you will continue on your chosen path or adjust your plan.
  • Periodic private equity event
  • Investors who opt for Private Equity Advice are invited to the periodic ABN AMRO MeesPierson private equity event. In addition, selected managers provide an update on the developments in their portfolios and their views on the outlook for the private equity asset class.
How do I make a transaction?

You invest in Private Equity Advice by means of a committed amount per fund. This amount will be called up in several capital calls over the lifetime of the fund.

When a capital call is expected from you, you will be notified by your investment adviser.

Your investment adviser will then ensure that this amount is invested in the private equity fund.

What are the fees and charges?

The specific fees and charges launched by ABN AMRO are described in detail for each fund and consist of:

  • the costs of the selected private equity programme (including one-off setting-up expenses, management and performance fees)
  • the costs of the ABN AMRO funds in which you invest as an investor (one-off entry fees and annual monitoring costs)
  • the costs of the investment account

The advisory costs and the costs of the ABN AMRO funds can be found in the Fees and Charges Information Card

Investing involves risks

You should only invest capital that you have over and above your buffer for unforeseen expenses. Investing can be interesting, but is not without risk. You may lose (part of) your investment. It is good to be aware of this. We advise you to only invest in investment products that match your risk appetite, investment objectives and knowledge and experience. We have listed the most common investment risks for you.
