Moving in together or getting married

Take care of things together

If you are planning to move in together or get married, remember to review your insurance policies, especially if you and your partner have the same cover. You often only need one insurance policy, which means you will save money on your premium. You might also need new insurance policies, for example if you are planning on buying a home.

Home insurance

If you are going to live together in a home you have bought, you will need home insurance to cover damage to your own home and any property in or attached to it. If you or your partner are moving from another owned home, you'll have to change the family composition of your insurance. If both of you have home insurance, choose one policy and cancel the other so that you save money on your premium.

Liability insurance

Our liability insurance covers damage that you or a family member accidentally inflict on another person and for which you are legally liable. If both of you have liability insurance, choose one policy and cancel the other so that you save money on your premium. Don't forget to change the family composition of the insurance that you'll keep.

Home contents insurance

Home contents insurance covers your home contents against loss or damage caused by fire, theft and storm. If both of you have home contents insurance, choose one policy and cancel the other so that you save money on your premium. Don't forget to change the family composition of the insurance that you'll keep.

Extending your home contents insurance

Moving in together can be a good opportunity to get personal possessions cover on top of your home contents insurance. With our personal possessions cover, laptops, smartphones and sports equipment are insured both within and outside your home. You can apply for our personal possessions cover by telephone or at one of our branches. With mobile device cover, your mobile telephone, tablet, laptop and smartwatch are insured against falls, impact or theft in the Netherlands, both inside and outside your home, for up to €7,500 per event.

Annual travel insurance

If you like to take frequent breaks, such as a city trip, a holiday or an overnight hotel stay in your own country, our annual travel insurance makes sure you are insured for all your trips and holidays. If both of you have annual travel insurance, you can keep both policies, but it is often cheaper to apply for one policy together. If you choose to apply for travel insurance together, be sure to change your travel insurance policy to reflect the change in your family situation.

Extending your annual travel insurance

While you are busy sorting out your travel insurance, take the chance to make sure your insurance cover still fits your situation. You may need cover for medical costs or worldwide cover if you travel outside Europe.

Car insurance

If you often drive with several passengers in your car, consider taking out car passenger accident insurance. If something happens and a passenger in your car is seriously injured or worse, you will receive a pre-agreed amount once only.

If you also insure a second car, the same no-claims bonus will apply as for your first car. This can be up to 70%.

Legal expenses insurance

If both of you have legal expenses insurance, it is often cheaper to apply for one policy together. And if neither of you have legal expenses insurance yet, this may be the perfect time to apply for it so that you are insured for the costs of legal advice and assistance in the event of a conflict.
