Savings Deposit

Terms of 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 years:

  • 1 year at 2.15%
  • 2 year at  2.15%
  • 3 years at 2.20%
  • 5 years at 2.30%
  • 10 years at 2.50%

Fixed interest rate

A Savings Deposit (Spaar Deposito) is a savings account in which you deposit money for a longer period of time, or term. The interest rate is fixed during the term. We currently only offer a fixed term of 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 years.

Who is it for?

A Savings Deposit can be opened by consumer and business clients, as long as the client has an ABN AMRO current account.

Interest

  • Interest on a Savings Deposit is paid annually.
  • The interest for a term of 1 year is  2.15% . 
  • The interest for a term of 2 years is  2.15% . 
  • The interest for a term of 3 years is  2.20% . 
  • The interest for a term of 5 years is  2.30% . 
  • The interest for a term of 10 years is  2.50% . 
  • This interest is the annual interest. Interest is paid into your account at the end of the term, on the same day as the day you made your first deposit. We will pay your interest into your linked ABN AMRO account. This can be a current account or another savings account held with ABN AMRO.
  • Interest paid on your fixed-term Savings Deposit is paid at the rate offered by the bank on the day you made your deposit.
  • This interest rate is fixed for your chosen term from the moment you make your deposit.
  • The bank may change interest rates offered on Savings Deposits from day to day. The new interest rate will only apply to clients opening a new Savings Deposit or making a new deposit.
Opening a new Savings Deposit

At present, you can open a Savings Deposit with a term of 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 years, and you can make your first deposit straight away. The minimum first deposit into a Savings Deposit is €500, and the maximum first deposit is €250,000.

Please note: this maximum amount depends on your set daily limit, which you can change to a maximum of €250,000 yourself.

If you want to deposit more than €250,000, you can do this by depositing a new sum of at least €500 immediately after your first deposit.

The maximum limit for deposits into a Savings Deposit is €10 million. This limit applies to the total of all Savings Deposits in your name. If you’re a business client, this limit applies to the group balance. This is the balance that you have together with the entities that form the group or partnership of which you are part.

New deposits are subject to the limits for transfers on Internet Banking and in the ABN AMRO app.

Please note: money can’t be transferred from a savings account with a Savings Lock.

New deposit into an existing Savings Deposit

If you already have a Savings Deposit and want to make a new deposit, you have two options:

  • If you want to make a deposit for the same term as your existing Savings Deposit, simply transfer this new amount (at least €500) to the existing account number. The term for the new amount starts at the moment you make the deposit and you’ll receive the interest rate offered on that day.
  • If you opt for a different term than that of your existing Savings Deposit, you must open a new Savings Deposit (with at least €500) with your chosen term. You’ll be given a new account number. The new term for the new amount starts at the moment you make the deposit and you’ll receive the interest rate offered on that day.

Please note: you can’t deposit additional amounts into a Green Savings Deposit (Dutch) .

The maximum limit for deposits into a Savings Deposit is €10 million. This limit applies to the total of all Savings Deposits in your name. If you’re a business client, this limit applies to the group balance. This is the balance that you have together with the entities that form the group or partnership of which you are part.

End of term

When the term of your Savings Deposit expires, the amount deposited will be transferred back into your account. This can be a current account or another savings account held with ABN AMRO.

Closing a Savings Deposit or withdrawing money

You can’t close a Savings Deposit if it still has a balance. The money has to be withdrawn or transferred first. In most cases, you will have to pay a penalty. Read more about this in  our terms and conditions (Dutch)

Is there no balance left in your Savings Deposit (Spaar Deposito)? Then you can close the account free of cost. You can easily close a savings account page. Business clients can do this easily online on the close a business savings account (Dutch) page

Dutch Deposit Guarantee

Your money is protected by the Dutch Deposit Guarantee

Your money held in accounts at ABN AMRO Bank is legally protected by the Dutch Deposit Guarantee, from 1 cent to €100,000. This protection applies per account holder and applies to the total amount that you have in your accounts at ABN AMRO Bank. You do not have to do anything for this.
