Your debit card will expire soon

Activate your new debit card

Activate your new debit card now to ensure that you can continue withdrawing or transferring money. You can do so in one of three ways:

  • by paying with your debit card and PIN in a shop;
  • by checking your balance at an ATM;
  • by withdrawing money at an ATM.

Why have I received a new debit card?

Your debit card expires after five years. Your card is valid until the last working day of the month printed on your debit card. But don’t worry: you will receive a new debit card from us two months before your old card expires. Activate the new card before the old one expires.

'Your PIN will also stay the same — good to know!'

Good question! Unfortunately, this is not (yet) possible.

If your old debit card has already expired, you cannot transfer funds. This is why you should activate your new debit card right away. You can do so in one of three ways:

  • by paying with your debit card and PIN in a shop;
  • by checking your balance at an ATM;
  • by withdrawing money at an ATM.

Tip: a new card has a different card number. Make sure you use your new card number when logging in to Internet Banking or the ABN AMRO app.

  • By paying in a shop using your debit card and PIN.
  • By withdrawing money at an ATM.
Yes, no problem. You can also activate your debit card at a different bank’s ATM by withdrawing money. You can also activate your debit card while abroad by withdrawing cash. That’s useful!
No, unfortunately not, but you can activate your debit card by paying in a shop or by checking your balance at an ATM.

Cut your old debit card in two and throw it away. Make sure you also cut the golden chip on the front of your card in two, as this will prevent others from misusing your card.

If your new debit card doesn’t work, it probably has not yet been activated. You can activate your card:

  • by paying in a shop using your debit card and PIN;
  • by checking your balance at an ATM;
  • by withdrawing money at an ATM.

If you have already activated your card in one of the three ways described above, but it still doesn’t work, please contact us.
