New payment terms and conditions from 1 January 2025

Ajaxrekening to be converted to a Young Person’s Growth Account

In January 2025, your child’s Ajaxrekening will be converted to a Young Person’s Growth Account: a free current account for children and young people aged 0 to 18. Only the name will change; the account number and debit card will remain the same. Please note: if your child already has a Young Person’s Growth Account as well as an Ajaxrekening, we will convert the Ajaxrekening to a personal account which will be free until your child’s 18th birthday.

When your child reaches the age of 18, we will automatically convert the Young Person’s Growth Account into a free Student Account at the start of the first month following their 18th birthday. You don’t need to do anything yourself.

Surcharge for non-residents for the current account

For clients who live outside the Netherlands or in the Caribbean Netherlands (the ‘BES islands’), the costs we as a bank have to incur are higher on average. We pass on a portion of these higher costs in our fees. The amount of the surcharge depends on the risk profile of the country where you live, which we reassess each year. Given that the situation in certain countries has changed, we have placed these countries in a different risk category, with a different surcharge. The risk category for the following countries will change on 1 January 2025:

  • Georgia
  • Grenada
  • Monaco
  • Montenegro
  • Switzerland
  • Saint Martin

Check the country overview (as of 1 January 2025) to see a list of countries, risk categories and associated fees.

Why are the fees changing?

At ABN AMRO, there are lots of ways to arrange your daily banking easily, securely and quickly. These options include simply scanning a QR code to make an iDEAL payment and paying and withdrawing money using your phone. Through these and other innovations, we make banking easier, faster and more secure. We also invest a great deal of time and money in combating financial crime.

At the same time, we want to make sure that banking remains accessible to all our clients. If you’re unsure what to do, we’re always close by and ready to help: you can talk to us via chat or call us right from the app. And you can also take advantage of our personal services, like a ‘financial future’ talk. These investments in our services and in secure banking result in higher fees for our payment services.

Keeping your money secure

Keeping your money secure is one of our top priorities. So every day, over 2,500 of our staff focus on security matters, such as blocking accounts. They also devise smart solutions, such as the Savings Lock, so that scammers can’t get to your savings. Find out what you can do.

Smart, fast banking

Our apps enable you to do your banking ever faster and more easily. From sending payment requests with Tikkie, to Video Banking with our experts. The following smart features in the ABN AMRO app show you exactly where you stand.

  • 'Push notification' send an alert about payments, insufficient funds or unusual debits.
  • 'Forecast' shows you all the regular transactions you can expect in the next 30 days.
  • 'Fixed costs' gives you an overview of all your recurring monthly costs and subscriptions.
