24/7 emergency assistance, anywhere in the world

It is reassuring to know that you have access to your important data at all times, no matter where you are. More information about the Stand-By Service and how to register your data with us can be found here. Registering your data ensures you are well prepared when you travel in the Netherlands and abroad.

How to register your data using the Stand-By Service

What data can you register?

  • Cards for financial services issued by any bank or organisation. Examples include bank cards, credit cards, fuel cards and loyalty cards.
  • Identity documents, such as your passport, driving licence and/or European identity card.
  • Valuable documents. Examples include membership cards, guarantee certificates, contracts, policies, key numbers and device numbers.
  • Travel documents, such as visas and tickets.
  • Mobile phones (not prepaid) from all mobile phone operators in the Netherlands.
  • Other useful information. This might include the name of your family doctor and the details of family members to be contacted in the event of an emergency.

Extra services included with the Stand-By Service

Luggage tracking service

When you apply for the Stand-By Service, you will receive one ABN AMRO luggage tag. If you lose your luggage or somebody finds it, they can report this to us using the information on the luggage tag. We will then send your luggage to the address you have provided.

Key return service

When you apply for the Stand-By Service, you will receive one ABN AMRO keyring displaying a business reply number for ABN AMRO and a unique number.

If somebody finds your keys, they can send them to us free of charge. The unique number tells us that the keys are yours, which means we can send them to you.

Reminder service

The Reminder Service ensures you never forget to renew an important document. We will send you a reminder in good time before your identity document or driving licence expires. All you have to do is to register your documents.

Cash advance of up to €1,000 in the event of an emergency abroad

If you are unable to withdraw cash while travelling because your debit card or credit card is lost, we can make emergency cash (up to €1,000) available to help you get back on your feet straight away. This amount will be debited from your current account immediately, and we will tell you by telephone where you can collect the money.

Practical assistance in the event of an emergency abroad

We will help you straight away if you encounter unexpected problems abroad, for example if lose your passport or visa. We will help you contact embassies, consulates and other authorities.

We will also help you arrange a replacement travel document and will reimburse the administrative fees. If necessary, we can also arrange an interpreter for you at no extra cost. This is useful if you are about to make a statement to the police, for instance.

You can order extra keyrings and luggage tags by calling 0900 97 97 (within the Netherlands only). An extra keyring costs €2.70 each and extra luggage tags are €4 per set of 3 pieces.

It is important that the details of, for example, your (bank) cards, your mobile phone number and provider are correctly registered and up to date. Does your (bank) card, telephone number or provider change? Then notify us immediately.

If you suffer damage or lose money as a result of losing your bank cards and credit cards, you can be compensated for €160 per card with a maximum of €1000 per occurrence. If you have a claim of this kind, call our helpdesk on 0900 - 9797 (within the Netherlands only) and request the 'ABN AMRO Stand-By Service Policy Excess Reimbursement’ form. The conditions that your application must satisfy are explained in the terms and conditions.

If your bag or wallet is lost or stolen, you can immediately call our emergency number, free of charge.

We will block your cards (including credit cards) and mobile phone straight away. Once you make the call, you are no longer liable for any financial risks. The Stand-By Service even covers the policy excess on your bank cards and credit cards. This does not extend to cards with a loaded balance, such as an OV-Chipkaart travel card. And always remember to report the loss or theft of your cards to the police.

If your phone is lost or stolen, you can immediately call our emergency number, free of charge.

If your phone is registered in the Stand-By Service and you have a carrier, we will contact your carrier directly to block your SIM card. This way, another person cannot just access your important data.

You do not need to apply for new cards as we will take care of that for you. We will replace ABN AMRO bank cards and credit cards free of charge. If you lose any other cards, we will notify the organisations that issued the cards. The costs of replacing those cards are payable by you.

Always report the loss or theft of your cards to the police. You may need to present written confirmation of the loss of the cards.

If you are abroad and find yourself dealing with an emergency situation, you can call + 31 20 651 59 27 for the following:

  • Forwarding an urgent message to family or friends.
  • Applying for a cash advance of up to €1,000. This may be necessary if you run out of money after your bank cards have been lost or stolen, or if you have to go to hospital urgently, for instance.
  • Help and advice when dealing with official authorities, such as embassies.
If you incur necessary costs during an emergency abroad, for example because you call the Netherlands or replace your travel document, those costs can be reimbursed.
