Beneficiary bank details

A Bank Identification Code (BIC) or a Bank Clearing Code (BCC) is required for a payment to a bank in China, depending on the currency:

To transfer a payment in CNY to a bank in China

To make a payment in CNY to a bank in China, a Bank Clearing Code (BCC) is required. This code consists of 12 characters.

To transfer a payment in another currency to China

To make a payment in a different currency to a bank in China, a Bank Identification Code (BIC) is required. This is also known as a SWIFT address.

China does not have an IBAN and no standard account structure.

These international transfers are subject to private transfer fees and business transfer fees . If you choose for the OUR option, the beneficiary will not be charged anything by their bank. ABN AMRO Bank charges an OUR fee for this.

The conditions for a payment to China

  • Include the CNAPS code (China National Advanced Payment System) in the description field. This code contains the location of the beneficiary bank and is used for the local processing of CNY in China.
  • For a payment in CNY to a beneficiary in China is only allowed if the payment is made to a business account in exchange for the provision of goods or services. The beneficiary's bank in China or the local regulator in China may ask you to provide the underlying documents, such as the invoice, contract, or confirmation of the instructions or order.
  • For a payment to a private account number or to a private person, please choose a currency other than CNY (EUR, USD, GBP) and do not include an 'invoice' in the description.
  • For a transfer to a bank account in China, it is mandatory to enter a Purpose code.

Enter the purpose code at the beginning of the description. See the list of purpose codes below. It is also possible to add a personal description in addition to the mandatory description.
