1. Answer some questions

Go to the application form for a joint account and answer some questions. We ask these questions so that we can offer you the best possible service. Once you have filled in your answers, check that the information is correct. When everything is correct, you can send the application.

2. Make an appointment with AMP Group

Once the application has been approved, you will receive an email from our partner AMP Group within 3 working days containing a link to an appointment planner.

This only happens if:

 

  • one of you is not yet a client at ABN AMRO
  • both of you are not yet clients at ABN AMRO

Before we open a joint account, we check the identity of the co-applicant who is not yet an ABN AMRO client. We do this to prevent identity fraud. The co-applicant can choose when, where and at what time AMP Group will come to check their identity. The appointment can be rescheduled up to a day in advance.

Then skip this step and confirm your application in Internet Banking.

3. Prepare for the appointment

If you are not yet an ABN AMRO client, you must be present at the appointment with AMP Group. Nobody else is permitted to hand over the identity document. Make sure you have your ID ready so that the appointment does not take longer than necessary. AMP Group will check the documents and make a copy. Important information: AMP Group does not use vehicles bearing the ABN AMRO logo.

4. Your joint account is now open!

Everything sorted? Welcome! You will receive the debit cards by post within 5 working days. From now on, you and the co-applicant have a joint bank account and deal with joint banking matters through ABN AMRO. You can apply for a savings account, insurance policy or credit card in a few simple steps.

You can open an account and submit your ID through the ABN AMRO app using the following forms of identification:

• Dutch ID (identity card, driving licence or passport)
• European identity card (except an identity card from Denmark, Greece, Iceland, Switzerland and Romania)
• International passport (except United States passport)
• Residence permit (type I, II, III, IV, V, or EU/EEA)

After you upload your identity document, you will be asked to verify the details. You can change your name and date of birth if necessary. Your application may be rejected if the details cannot be properly verified. You can then restart the application.

Like all other banks, we are legally obliged to verify the identity of you and your co-applicant and to check that you can both become clients. This obligation is laid down in the Dutch Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Act (Wwft). In doing so, we help prevent money laundering and terrorist financing.
