Stay properly insured when you move house

Moving house involves a lot of organisation. Your insurance policies also move with you. Inform us of your new address and family situation and check that your insurance policies match your new living situation. This keeps you properly insured with the right cover and prevents double insurance and underinsurance.

Two homes for the time being

ABN AMRO home contents insurance covers you at 2 addresses during the move. If one of your homes is empty for longer than 4 months, please get in touch with us.

Damage during house move

Your belongings may get damaged during your house move. Fortunately, your belongings are insured before, during and after your move with home contents insurance. That means you can move house with peace of mind.

Buying or renting

If you rent your property, you do not have to have home insurance. If you have bought a flat, home insurance is often arranged by the Home-owners' Association (VvE). When you buy a house, you have to take out home insurance. This is very important.

Legal expenses insurance

Buying a house, moving house and renovating involves a lot of organisation work with lots of different parties. For that reason, it's wise to take out legal expenses insurance. What if you come across hidden defects? Or what if you get into a conflict with a contractor? Legal expenses insurance helps you sort this out and reimburses the costs of legal assistance.

Home insurance

When you buy a home, you should always take out a new home insurance policy. This means you are properly insured for damage to your home and belongings fixed in and to your home caused by incidents such as burglary, fire and storm. Remember to cancel your current home insurance policy, if you have one.

Flat
If you’re buying an apartment, home insurance has often already been arranged by the owners’ association (Vereniging van Eigenaren, VvE). Be sure to check whether your VvE has insured the windows in your home. If they haven’t, you can include the windows in your home contents insurance with us.

New build
Buying a newly built house? During the construction work, a yet-to-be-installed central heating boiler, kitchen or bathroom are usually covered by the builder's own insurance. However, once the construction work is complete, you have to have proper insurance in place.

From purchase to rental
If you’re moving from a home you own to a home you rent, you’ll no longer need home insurance. Be sure to cancel it as soon as the notary has executed the purchase deed (i.e. after the property transfer).

Home contents insurance

Buying a lot of new things for your new home? Most items are covered with no maximum insured amount. If you buy a lot of electronics, art or personal jewellery, check whether your home contents insurance still gives you enough cover after the move.

During your house move

ABN AMRO home contents insurance covers you at two addresses during the move as standard. If one of your homes is empty for longer than four months, please get in touch with us.

Life insurance

When you buy a house, it is a good idea to take out life insurance – especially if your housing costs have risen and young children are moving with you. If you take out life insurance, your next of kin will not be left with a mortgage debt they cannot pay.

Car insurance

If you're moving house and you have an ABN AMRO car insurance policy, your premium may change. This is because the amount of the premium partly depends on your postcode. The new premium will be specified on your new policy. Contact us if you want to know in advance how much your new premium will be.

If you start driving less, you can often save money on your premium by adjusting the mileage you drive each year. You change the mileage in a few simple steps by changing your cover.
