Why are ETFs so popular?

The advantages of investing in ETFs

What makes ETF investing such a popular choice? To begin with, ETFs are made up of multiple different shares and/or bonds, making it easy to spread your investments. What’s more, we don’t charge transaction fees for ETFs from the basic range. You will, however, be charged service and product fees. Find out more about the pros and cons of investing in ETFs.

Investing involves risk. You could lose all or part of your investment.

ETFs at a glance

Exchange-traded funds

ETFs are investment products that are tradable on the stock market

Basket of shares

They contain various shares or bonds from a market index or relating to a specific theme

Index trackers

Given that ETFs track a market index as closely as possible, they are often referred to as ‘index trackers’

Diverse range

Our basic range is made up of over 200 ETFs focused on geographical regions, currencies, sectors or commodities. You will also find in our range. Some ETFs specialise in specific themes, such as social inequality, the energy transition or healthcare.

ETFs offer an opportunity to spread investments

When buying an ETF, you can start spreading your investments right away, because you are effectively investing in a basket of different investments. Some market indices include hundreds of (international) companies. This is a major advantage. That said, do make sure you put some thought into what type of ETF you choose. If an ETF invests in just one or a few sectors, it will involve more risk. After all, when these sectors hit hard times, it may affect your ETF. Before going into ETF investing, do your research on what ETF to invest in.

Getting started with ETFs is convenient

Once you have made your choice from the range, you can buy and sell ETFs during stock market trading hours. To do so, you will need a Self-Directed Investing Basic or a Self-Directed Investing Plus account. Orders can be submitted through the ABN AMRO app or on Internet Banking. You can subsequently track the performance of your ETF 24/7 in real time.

You can buy and sell ETFs during stock market trading hours. Since ETF investing is a long-term pursuit, there is no need to keep checking the share prices every day.

No transaction fee for the basic range

When buying or selling ETFs from ABN AMRO’s basic range, you will not be charged a transaction fee. You will, however, be charged service and product fees.
