If your car is adequately secured, you do not have to pay an excess in case of theft, attempted theft, break-in or joyriding. The Motor Vehicle Certification Foundation has determined different security classes. If your car does not meet any of them, you will have an excess of 2.5% of your car's daily value and pay a minimum excess of €375.

If you have taken out the additional breakdown coverage and you get a temporary replacement car in case of damage, the rental company may have set an excess. Sometimes it is possible to reduce this excess for a fee.

No. An alarm system is not required. However, if your car is adequately secured, you do not have to pay an excess in case of theft, attempted theft, break-in or joyriding. The Dutch Motor Vehicle Certification Association (Stichting Certificering Motorrijtuigen, SCM) has defined different security classes . If your car does not have an SCM-certified security system, your insurance will still pay for any damage caused to your car by theft.
