  • Costs of equipment that removes the smoke from your home
  • Costs for cleaning the soot damage
  • Costs of transporting and storing your home contents if necessary
  • Costs you incur in order to reduce or prevent an acute threat of damage

Frequently asked questions about fire damage

Is fire damage due to a short circuit covered by the insurance policy?

If a short circuit in one of your appliances caused a fire, this is covered by our home contents insurance and home insurance in most cases.

When is fire damage covered by home contents insurance and when is it covered by home insurance?

Suppose there has been a fire in your home. In many cases, the fire can be extinguished quickly, but you may have a lot of soot damage. The damage to possessions that are not fixed inside your home, such as a cupboard, sofa or chairs, is insured by home contents insurance. Soot damage to a glued-down wooden floor and damage to the walls is covered by the home insurance.

Do I have a policy excess in the event of fire damage?

In the event of fire damage, no mandatory excess applies. If you have opted for a voluntary excess, we will deduct it from the amount you receive. Please read the terms and conditions through carefully. The policy schedule states whether you have a voluntary excess.

Is damage caused by my wood stove always insured?

Damage caused by your wood stove is insured if the installation of the wood stove complies with existing guidelines. ABN AMRO Insurance will never reimburse damage caused by:

  • intentional damage, gross negligence or illegal activity by you
  • poor or overdue maintenance, wear, rot or rust
  • due to a construction fault of your home
