Got a new phone?

We’ll help you get straight back into the ABN AMRO app

It’s always nice to have a new phone, a new start. And it’s handy if all your apps are there right away, including the ABN AMRO app. Here are a few tips.

  1. Transfer your apps to your new device

You can often transfer your apps to your new device automatically. Choose to copy files and apps from your old device. Once the device has finished installing everything, you’ll see the ABN AMRO app in your overview.

    If you have an Android
Use the same Google account as you did on your old phone. This will allow you to choose the apps you want to transfer. To make sure the ABN AMRO app still works properly, don’t transfer it to your new device. Instead, download it again in step 2.

    If you have an Apple
Make a back-up of your apps on iCloud. This will allow you to install your apps on your new phone. To make sure the ABN AMRO app still works properly, don’t transfer it to your new device. Instead, download it again in step 2.

  2. Download and activate the app

Download the app again from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Follow the steps in the ABN AMRO app to activate it. This will link your new device to your bank account(s).

    Download and activate now

  3. Remove your previous device from the list of ‘Registered devices’

Go to ‘Profile’. Scroll down to ‘Access and usage’. Tap the recycle bin shown next to your old device under ‘Registered devices’. If you also use the app on other devices (such as a tablet), you’ll see a list. The date that you last logged in is shown next to each device. This will help you to decide which devices to remove.

The app isn’t working properly on your new phone

Log in to Internet Banking and go to Self service. Click My details > ABN AMRO app device registration > View device registration. Click the recycle bin shown next to your old device. Then download our app again on your new device. You’ll be asked if you already have an identification code. Select ‘no’. You can then choose the same identification code as you were using before.

Install the ABN AMRO app using a QR code

If you’ve got a new phone but your ID doesn’t have an NFC chip, for example, you might have problems activating the ABN AMRO app. If so, you can link your new phone using a unique QR code. Scan the QR code in the app on your old device, and your details will be transferred securely.

FAQ about the app on a new device

It feels like you’re doing this twice - we get that. After all, you’ve already activated the app. But it’s important to re-link every new device so that we know that it’s really you using the app on this device, which is not yet known to us. This is why we ask you to reactivate the ABN AMRO app before you do your banking on a new phone. You don’t need an e.dentifier to do this, just proof of your ID.

You can do this using proof of your ID. Follow the steps in the ABN AMRO app. It might be a good idea to read through all the steps before you get started. Once you’ve completed the reactivation, you’ll be able to do all your banking in the app, without an e.dentifier.

Losing an old phone can be very inconvenient. Remove the device from your list of registered devices on Internet Banking . This is important, even if your phone and app were properly secured. Once you have a new device, you can download and activate the ABN AMRO app again. Take a look at our tips on secure banking on your mobile phone.

If you sell your old phone, you’ll delete all your settings and remove your files and apps, including the ABN AMRO app, before handing it over. But even if your phone is lost or stolen, nobody can get into your app, because it’s secured by an identification code or fingerprint. In both situations, the golden rule is: remove your old device on Internet Banking . If your old phone is not on the list of ‘Registered devices’, it’s absolutely certain that nobody can access your app.
